Now In: Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does your unit come with everything I will need to get started?
A. Yes.  The groClone system comes with everything but lighting.

Q. Does you groclone unit require a dome?

A. No. In fact we recommend that you don't use one.  The groclone system supplies more than enough water for the plant cuttings.

Q. Do you sell your unit in larger sizes?
A. No.  The groClone unit is relatively small (12"X24") but has 53 usable sites.  You can fit two groClone units end-to-end under a four foot light and begin rooting 106 plants.

Q. How does it work?

A. Our system unlike any other keeps the rooting portion of a cutting submerged in a highly defused oxygenated bath. Operating it with a clear or see through tray revealed with in minute’s oxygen attaching itself to the submerged stem, giving the cutting what they need to root. (see pics page)

Q. Is your system airoponics?

A. No, the cuttings are not suspended over a reservoir of water and misted, groClone cuttings are submerged in a defused air- water filled reservoir.

Q. What type of nutrients or solutions do you recommend with the groClone?

A. At this time we do not recommend the use of any additives in the groClone unit. The results that you see on our website are with the use of a good water source with a balanced pH and low ppm’s. If you are unsure about your water source we recommend that you use a bottled spring water (not distilled or purified/RO). We have tested with several different water sources and find that the bottled spring water gives the most consistent results, roots come out healthy and white, and it is still economical since the units only hold 2 gal. of water.  We are continuously testing with different types of additives and have found two products that have proven to have great potential with the use of our units. If used in moderation (light dipping of just the end of the cutting) the use of Island Brand cloning gel or Rootech cloning gel have reduced rooting time in soft stem cuttings by app. 2 days and hard wood cuttings by 5 or more days with both resulting in impressive root formation

Q. I am currently using a system that works well in the winter, but in the summer they get stem rot?

A. Some of the systems on the market create excessive heat within the reservoir and are an invitation to bacterial growth and oxygen deficiency. The warmer water gets the less oxygen it will hold exponentially. groClone is design so as not to create excessive heat. It continually circulates the water as it blends in fresh air.  It maintains ideal water temperatures so it can operate perfectly in the wider range of ambient temperatures that we are accustomed to as high wattage growers.

Q. Your system looks like a sales gimmick?

A.  All products are potential sales gimmicks, and we don’t know until we purchase and use that product. I didn’t design this product to put it on the market. I designed it because I wanted something that was easy to work with, and that worked every time. I can only tell you I have received nothing short of 100% success through my many experiments in a California sun beaten closet that reached temps in the 90’s.

Q. Can you grow plants from seed in groClone?

A. GroClone was not designed as a seed germinating devise. It is very good at doing what it was designed for, rooting cuttings.

Q. Can you grow plants in it?

A.  I have added a hydro food product at 1/4 strength after cuttings developed a small root mass. I watched 4” cuttings grow to 10" with no sign of deficiencies. I am going to venture to guess that this medium would sustain plant life well, but would not support a maturing plant. There are patented designs of this nature specifically designed for growing plants.

Q.  Do the clones maintain good health?

A. I haven’t witnessed any signs of yellowing or sickness, clones should be taken from a healthy plant. From start to finish they appear to look as healthy as the day I took them.

Q. Does it use an air pump?

A. There is no air pump. To get the high and reliable success rate groClone offers, experiments found it took much more then just blowing air into water with an air pump. The finer you can break up air in water, and the cooler water becomes, the longer it can hold oxygen. This is what groClone accomplishes.
